APEL is a process through which learning achieved outside formal education is assessed, recognised and used to grant opportunity to learners who wish to enrol in an open and distance learning (ODL) environment like Open University Malaysia (OUM). It will address the issue of increasing the nation’s effort towards evolving human capital for the benefit of the masses.
In addition, it also could be a catalyst in elevating people’s income by propelling through productivity. You can use your prior learning experiences as an admission criteria to join OUM undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. It is endorsed by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and to date, more than 25,000 learners have gained access through this path.

Admission Criteria
Diploma
- The candidate should be more than 20 years of age in the year of application
- Relevant work experience / prior experiential learning; and
- Pass the APEL Assessment Bachelor's
Degree
- The candidate should be more than 21 years of age in the year of application;
- Relevant work experience / prior experiential learning; and
- Pass the APEL Assessment
Master'sDegree
- The candidate should be more than 30 years of age in the year of application;
- STPM / Diploma / A-Levels / equivalent;
- Relevant work experience / prior experiential learning; and
- Pass the APEL Assessment
